The Interrupters, 2011

the-interruptersC and I watched a beautiful documentary called The Interrupters this week.  The violence interrupters profiled in the movie are men and women seeking to stop violence on the streets of Chicago.  The movie focuses a 12 month period and 3 interrupters who have ties in their past to gang violence.  They use their connections and their knowledge to put themselves in the middle of violent outbreaks with one goal – to stop the escalation before someone is shot and lives are ruined.

I was struck by the bravery of these men and women, not only for the risks they take as interrupters, but for their own journeys – overcoming their past crimes and putting that experience towards something positive.

Nicely shot, well paced, and personal.

K’s rating of The Interrupters: 8/10 mangoes

C’s rating of The Interrupters: 9/10 mangoes
