I was assigned The Great Gatsby as a summer reading assignment in High School. Let’s just say that I didn’t do very well on the test in September. It was a tough read when reading was tough.
And so, it was with some reluctance that I queued up The Great Gatsby (1974) on Netflix. It was quiet. It was sweaty. And it was better than what little I remember of the book. I enjoyed it. There was this wonderful likeness to Downton Abbey, English countryside, hazy atmosphere, and opulence.
And then we have the most recent contribution by Baz Lurhmann (2013). K and I only got 20 min into it. Funny enough, I don’t remember why we only got 20 minutes into it. Oh right, we had more important things to do than watch the most boring movie that’s come out this year. On a positive note, it had similar storyline, characters, and effects as Moulin Rouge (2001).
